Larian’s boss already has a draft for Act 1 of the next project after Baldur’s Gate 3.

Larian Studios is already setting its sights on its upcoming project, with CEO Swen Vincke actively crafting the storyline. Vincke reveals that he has a draft for the first act ready, signaling Larian’s shift beyond Baldur’s Gate 3.

In a series of tweets, Vincke shares insights into his writing process, disclosing that he has spent the past four months working on the initial act of the new project. While he clarifies that he’s not hinting at any imminent announcements, the glimpse into the studio’s inner workings is intriguing.

“After four months of constant refinement, abandoning ideas, and then revisiting them, I’ve finally discerned the essence of what Act 1 in this project needs to be,” Vincke shares. He humorously challenges others to quote him when the project is unveiled to see how much of the current draft endures, suspecting it might undergo substantial changes.

Vincke refrains from providing details about the nature of this project but assures followers that it’s “not what you think,” suggesting it may not be the anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 expansion or sequel. Considering Larian’s Divinity series, which has been dormant since Divinity: Original Sin 2 in 2017, might be a potential contender.

“I haven’t shared it with anyone yet, so it’s possible they may deem it unsatisfactory, and then I’ll simply end this thread, retreat to a corner with my dog, and pretend none of this happened. Press CTRL+ENTER and start anew,” Vincke quips. However, he expresses genuine enthusiasm, stating, “But I think I really like this one.”

Vincke cautions that it will be “quite some time” before he can reveal more details. Understandably, given the extensive development of Baldur’s Gate 3, which continues to receive updates, the team deserves a break.

Despite the limited information, Baldur’s Gate 3’s epilogue strongly hints at an expansion or sequel, with references to the characters embarking on another adventure. Withers even suggests that everyone can rest “for now.” The exact nature of this upcoming project remains uncertain, but given the success of the CRPG, it’s likely that Larian will be leading the charge for the next installment.
