In a recent announcement at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida unveiled a brand-new job for the game’s upcoming expansion, Dawntrail. This new job, called the Viper, is a melee DPS class with a Ninja-like flair, offering a unique addition to the series.
Yoshida, affectionately known as Yoshi-P by the community, made his customary appearance dressed as the Viper during the event. A remixed Dawntrail trailer provided a tantalizing glimpse of this exciting addition. The Viper job is described as both technically demanding and stylish, catering to players who have longed for an experience akin to the Ninja job but with a distinctive twist. As a Viper, players wield twin blades that can be seamlessly joined together, not only for style but likely for increased damage output.
Speculation among fans initially leaned toward a pirate-themed job due to hints from the Warrior of Light’s attire, reminiscent of a swashbuckler. However, it was later revealed in the Dawntrail trailer that the new job is, in fact, the Viper. When the expansion is released, players can acquire the Viper job at level 80 in Ul’dah.
In addition to the Viper job, another new job is on the horizon, focusing on casting abilities. Details about this second job will be unveiled at the Tokyo edition of Fan Fest. Some fans are speculating that it might be a Painter-style job, drawing inspiration from Final Fantasy 6, where each Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is named after an artist. Alternatively, it could be the Green Mage, but for now, we’ll have to wait for further information.
Dawntrail, introduced earlier this year at the Las Vegas edition of Fan Fest, promises to take players on a relaxing summer vacation, offering a refreshing change of pace from the high-stakes adventures of Endwalker.

Despite the laid-back atmosphere, conflicts will still arise as the Scions embark on a mission to resolve a succession crisis that has divided their ranks. The expansion’s story is shrouded in mystery, leaving players eager to discover which path each Scion will choose.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail is set to release next summer, providing the perfect opportunity for players to take a well-deserved virtual holiday in the game’s rich and vibrant world.
