Spider-Man 2 has confirmed that Insomniac’s version of Black Cat is bisexual, just like her comic book counterpart.

Fans of Spider-Man who are well-versed in the comic lore may already be aware that Black Cat, a long-standing ally and occasional love interest of the web-slinger, was confirmed as a bisexual character some time ago. This aspect of her identity was hinted at in the past but was unequivocally established in the pages of the 2021 comic issue, “Black Cat #7,” where she shared a passionate kiss with Odessa Drake, the leader of the Thieves Guild.

Black Cat has also played a significant role in Insomniac’s Spider-Man video game series, first appearing in a DLC expansion for the initial game and gaining a more prominent presence in the recently released “Spider-Man 2.” Given that Insomniac’s portrayal of Black Cat is a distinct character in a separate universe, there was speculation about whether her sexuality aligns with her comic book counterpart. Fortunately, it appears that it does.

To avoid revealing spoilers, we’ll keep the details light. In “Spider-Man 2,” fans will discover Black Cat’s motivations as she confides in Miles Morales. She discloses that she has a girlfriend in Paris who is in dire need of assistance. She also asks Miles if he has ever taken significant actions for love. A scene depicting this can be viewed on YouTube, uploaded by ToxicKiri.

For LGBTQ+ Spider-Man enthusiasts, it’s heartening to note that Black Cat’s representation isn’t the sole instance of LGBTQ+ inclusion in “Spider-Man 2.” Early in the game, players can take on the role of Miles Morales and engage in a side quest involving a university peer who is anxious about inviting his boyfriend to the homecoming event, making it one of the game’s sweetest and most heartwarming side quests of the year.

In other exciting “Spider-Man 2” developments, now that the game is in the hands of fans, numerous intriguing discoveries and references to other Marvel properties and films have come to light. For instance, players can outfit Miles in suits inspired by Black Panther and Wolverine, while Peter Parker also has an array of cool new suits, including the much-requested Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit.

Furthermore, there is a clever nod to a previously cut character from the Spider-Verse, discoverable while searching for the game’s new Spider-Verse-themed collectibles. Upon collecting them all, players will have the opportunity to meet Delilah, originally intended to be a bartender at The Bar With No Name in “Across the Spider-Verse.”
